The Lord’s Supper

This afternoon, around 2:10 (08 April, 2009), I attended our Church of God, International’s The Lord’s Suppervia an Internet hook-up in one of the locales here in Metro Manila. I came early. I was very happy despite the things that happened to me, I took part on this once in a lifetime event, being managed by our Presiding Minister, Brother Eli Soriano and our Vice Presiding Minister, Kuya Daniel Razon. I know that the angels are one of our spectators today.

A day before this commemoration of the Lord’s Supper, I knew that this will be a very special day and event in my entire life and even to my brethren, and it was!  This activity was simultaneously broadcasted via the Internet to our locales around the globe. The Ang Dating Daan (The Old Path) Convention Center, Apalit, Pampanga, served as the HUB.

The said commemoration was a spiritual gathering.  I learned during the Lord’s Supper that we do this in remembrance of the teachings and sufferings of Jesus Christ. I would want to discuss further all that I learned,  but this is a meat, not a milk, in terms of biblical passages: people who has no faith similar to our faith will find it hard to digest, accept or understand. Therefore, I will just give some points to ponder for my readers because not even other groups that preach that they are a religious group can relate to this. Although, I believe that all things work together for good for those who love God.  I hope, pray, and believe too that I deserved to attend and to take part of the  said commemoration and I was forgiven from my sins.

1 Corinthians 11 (New International Version)

20When you come together, it is not the Lord’s Supper you eat, 21for as you eat, each of you goes ahead without waiting for anybody else. One remains hungry, another gets drunk. 22Don’t you have homes to eat and drink in? Or do you despise the church of God and humiliate those who have nothing? What shall I say to you? Shall I praise you for this? Certainly not!

23For I received from the Lord what I also passed on to you: The Lord Jesus, on the night he was betrayed, took bread, 24and when he had given thanks, he broke it and said, “This is my body, which is for you; do this in remembrance of me.” 25In the same way, after supper he took the cup, saying, “This cup is the new covenant in my blood; do this, whenever you drink it, in remembrance of me.” 26For whenever you eat this bread and drink this cup, you proclaim the Lord’s death until he comes.

27Therefore, whoever eats the bread or drinks the cup of the Lord in an unworthy manner will be guilty of sinning against the body and blood of the Lord. 28A man ought to examine himself before he eats of the bread and drinks of the cup. 29For anyone who eats and drinks without recognizing the body of the Lord eats and drinks judgment on himself. 30That is why many among you are weak and sick, and a number of you have fallen asleep. 31But if we judged ourselves, we would not come under judgment. 32When we are judged by the Lord, we are being disciplined so that we will not be condemned with the world.

33So then, my brothers, when you come together to eat, wait for each other. 34If anyone is hungry, he should eat at home, so that when you meet together it may not result in judgment.
And when I come I will give further directions.

Aside from the spiritual supper of the teachings of Jesus Christ, by 6pm, everyone in the ADD Convention Center was happy to get a dinner-treat from Brother Eli and Kuya Daniel.  I was surprised, because I got a free meal too in the locale. I felt sincerely grateful for having such an extended family in our other locales.  Later on, after a long wait,  20,000 packed meal reached all the brethren, and I know that each locale brought with them foods to share and for the guests, Brother Eli continued our Lord’s Supper. I guess, by now, you will still ask, what is the Lord’s Supper? If your answer is yes, then, God willing, there will be another year for you to look forward to, the next commemoration of the Lord’s Supper. I hope you attend too.

Before I sleep, I still feel everything reverberating in my head and my heart that this time is a call for the serious taking of tasks, responsibilities and obligations as a Christian; I very much feel and understand the need and importance of Jesus Christ’s sufferings and obedience. I also felt and realized how great the God  of Israel in showing and sharing His justice, mercy, and righteousness to His creation, though we are mere dusts. I learned also the importance of forgiving and forgetting the trespasses done against me, in doing so, I can move forward to become a better person, a Christian in its truest sense.  Thanks be to God for all the warm and loving brethren!
