Christ is the New Year, in pursuit for the True Happiness

Acts 18:
3And because he was of the same craft, he abode with them, and wrought: for by their occupation they were tentmakers.

Before and at the first cast of the sun’s rays and so on, this New Year of 2009 which is based on the Gregorian Calendar, people tend to have wishes of not to do’s, a new year’s resolution. In the midst of those people are hopeless souls, what can they wish for?

I wrote something about the “Pursuit of Happyness” after I watched the movie with the same title, Will Smith was the lead actor. My little brother often suggests to me that I see it and since I have a lot things to do, I just ignore him. And finally I had an idle time, I did watch it.  I regret that I have not seen the movie sooner.

I often write in my posts how I relate to some movies, and how I am convinced how God moves in mysterious ways, and becomes clearer as I continue to study the word of God. Movies are sort of warp zones where the minds of people who watch meet; unfortunately, like two people walking towards each other, walking in the opposite direction and that’s it, just a brief encounter and nothing else. People try to relay a message, in written forms, sounds, visuals, etc.  Some gets it, some tries to digest and  still try to read between the lines, while some did not get it at all.  More often than not, some people just watch a movie because everyone does,  and they don’t want to be O.P., out of place when people around them starts to talk about it.

God works, but  some failed to notice it, while others do something against it. How can you relate to this? I wonder whether these two in the movie,  father and son, really had happiness that they pursue. I haven’t even thought that free transient homes or shelters are enough to see how God works.

Free Transient homes or shelters provide a realization that there are people who believe in God and the real sense of happiness is free, just around the corner, by turning to God. Imagine, a whisper of “thank you, oh God” brings you nearer to Him. How many people do you think has whispered it before, during, and after watching the film? What do you think people did after they saw the film? Did they return to their same old business and did even care less. Put yourselves in some other’s shoe, for example, when you have no place to stay and anyone to talk with, and it is New Year’s Eve?

Did anyone tell you, especially the Roman Catholic  Pope, that New Year and our refuge is Christ? The Holy Bible contains the words of God and some people are able to read between the lines, even the absolute truth:

Ruth 2:12
May the LORD repay you for what you have done. May you be richly rewarded by the LORD, the God of Israel, under whose wings you have come to take refuge.”

2 Samuel 22:31
“As for God, his way is perfect; the word of the LORD is flawless. He is a shield for all who take refuge in him.

Let us read some highlights of what Brother Eliseo “Eli” Soriano taught us in the Members Church of God International (MCGI), written by Philip Garcia in Newsvine.com, entitled, “New Year is When One Begins to Know the Truth – Bro. Eli Soriano”:

“…Not all countries celebrate New Year on January 1, however; only those that are governed by the Gregorian calendar. According to Wikipedia, the Roman calendar traditionally began on March 1, until it was later changed by Julius Caesar in 47 BC, creating the Julian calendar. Catholic Pope Gregory XIII then changed it again in 1582 to what is presently known as the Gregorian calendar, which begins on January 1.

The true New Year, on the contrary, according to Bro. Eli Soriano, host of the religious program Ang Dating Daan (The Old Path), is not January 1 or any other date. In his Bible Expositions being held in different parts of the globe, Bro. Eli usually encounters questions regarding the New Year. According to the preacher, in the Bible, “Christ is the New Year.”

Soriano, acclaimed by many as the most sensible preacher in our time, is the Presiding Minister of the Members, Church of God, International.

Bro. Eli explains that once a person has accepted Christ in his life, to him it is the beginning of a new year. No more alcohol drinking, no more cigarette smoking and no more of the wicked ways that he formerly does. Unlike in the Gregorian calendar, a drug addict will still be a drug addict after the New Year celebration.

Instead of buying firecrackers to promote air pollution, why not build a free transient home or orphanage for the homeless? Instead of welcoming the new year with dismembered fingers, bloody eyes and dirty nose, why not provide free feeding programs in the depressed areas of the country? These things have Bro. Eli Soriano accomplished; perhaps, because he celebrates a New Year different from most others.

In the Ang Dating Daan (ADD) Convention Center in Apalit, Pampanga, north of Manila, a new free Transient Home is currently on its finishing touch. It is a sequelto the free Transient Home in Quezon City, a few blocks away from UNTV Studio, opened on October 29 through the efforts of Bro. Eli Soriano and UNTV host, Mr. Daniel Razon…

…In the ADD Convention Center also, an orphanage and a free hospital is located. In the orphanage, the physically-disabled, the elderly widows and the orphans have physicians and assistants attending to their needs. Food is served on time, vitamins and all possible care is provided. This orphanage is one of the several orphanages Bro. Eli maintains in different parts of the country..” Read More or Read cache link instead (This is a classic example of what I am talking about when Newsvine.com shuts up it’s door for communication. And for my comments, please proceed on my response or comments area.)

We all search for a refuge in so many ways in the literal sense, especially, spiritual sense. And where do we start? When we know that someone is being guided by the Holy Spirit that makes a way, being poor financially, to help others, that is a start and how do we move forward?

“I want it done immediately.” – Bro. Eli Soriano.

These were the words that Bro. Daniel Razon received from Bro. Eli Soriano, and shared with the congregation of the Members Church of God International when the former spoke of the “transient home”, a project that he had dreamed of and now has come up for good.

The transient home that Bro. Daniel Razon related was inspired from the film “In Pursuit of Happyness”, which starred Will Smith. The movie shows the concept of a transient (which means temporary) building where the homeless or drifters can pass the night for free and then leave the next day.

Bro. Daniel thinks of enhancing the said house by making it a shelter for the homeless where they could not only sleep but also be fed for free, similar to the complimentary bus, train, medical, and food service that have been in operation for almost a year, through the instrumentation of the Members Church of God International and UNTV.

According to Kuya Daniel, the idea of the transient home had moved him after he watched the film, which was at a certain time prior to the piloting of “Good Morning Kuya” on July 23, 2007….”  Read More

These are good work in Christ. Aside from that, Ang Dating Daan or The Old Path, as a media program name of MCGI, has its orphanages, home for the aged, widows, and handicapped. The program sponsors free MRT tickets for the senior citizens; libreng sakay free bus rides in metro manila; also feeding programs for the poor children; medical missions and consultations; legal consultations, etc.

MARk 4:

11He told them, “The secret of the kingdom of God has been given to you. But to those on the outside everything is said in parables 12so that,
” ‘they may be ever seeing but never perceiving,
and ever hearing but never understanding;
otherwise they might turn and be forgiven!

13Then Jesus said to them, “Don’t you understand this parable? How then will you understand any parable? 14The farmer sows the word. 15Some people are like seed along the path, where the word is sown. As soon as they hear it, Satan comes and takes away the word that was sown in them. 16Others, like seed sown on rocky places, hear the word and at once receive it with joy. 17But since they have no root, they last only a short time. When trouble or persecution comes because of the word, they quickly fall away. 18Still others, like seed sown among thorns, hear the word; 19but the worries of this life, the deceitfulness of wealth and the desires for other things come in and choke the word, making it unfruitful. 20Others, like seed sown on good soil, hear the word, accept it, and produce a crop-thirty, sixty or even a hundred times what was sown.”

21He said to them, “Do you bring in a lamp to put it under a bowl or a bed? Instead, don’t you put it on its stand? 22For whatever is hidden is meant to be disclosed, and whatever is concealed is meant to be brought out into the open. 23If anyone has ears to hear, let him hear.”

24“Consider carefully what you hear,” he continued. “With the measure you use, it will be measured to you-and even more. 25Whoever has will be given more; whoever does not have, even what he has will be taken from him.”

Matthew 25:23-30
“His master replied, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant! You have been faithful with a few things; I will put you in charge of many things. Come and share your master’s happiness!’

24″Then the man who had received the one talent came. ‘Master,’ he said, ‘I knew that you are a hard man, harvesting where you have not sown and gathering where you have not scattered seed. 25So I was afraid and went out and hid your talent in the ground. See, here is what belongs to you.’

26″His master replied, ‘You wicked, lazy servant! So you knew that I harvest where I have not sown and gather where I have not scattered seed? 27Well then, you should have put my money on deposit with the bankers, so that when I returned I would have received it back with interest.

28″ ‘Take the talent from him and give it to the one who has the ten talents. 29For everyone who has will be given more, and he will have an abundance. Whoever does not have, even what he has will be taken from him.

30And throw that worthless servant outside, into the darkness, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.’

    Erratum

Dear Philip and Red Wolf of Newsvine.com,

I am sorry for the trouble I caused you.

Though it is too late to explain, let me give you my side.

I was caught between slow internet settings as I usually save my posts as I write them to avoid the internet hanging up and my post disappearing.

I read Philip’s article and got inspiration to write about it, so I copied a part of his article and post it in my blog and placed a “READ MORE” linking newsvine as the source. Now, while working and editing my post, I noticed that the link I made was not working. So, I tried to look for it again until I finally saw it and at the same time read Red Wolf’s comment. Red Wolf was asking Philip to clear his article against plagiarism.

I am not aware that Red Wolf’s comment has a link too, “UNCREDITED SOURCE” that links to my blog, I didn’t understand that he was talking about me as a possible source of Philip’s article. So, I did not bother to react by commenting here.

And now that Philip and Jane Abao called my attention, I am now informing you that Philip did not plagiarize my post. Actually his article is one of my sources when I wrote my post in my blog.

Again, I am sorry for the inconvenience for all the parties aggrieved. I am sure I have learned my lessons very well from responsible writers here.

Right, newsvine’s moderators just did what a responsible journalist and writers should do, and I am more honored to be part of Newsvine moving forward.

    This erratum is found in
Philip Garcia’s recently deleted article, entitled, “New Year is when one begins to know the truth – Bro Eli Soriano.”

    Dear Fellowmen,

The current link to Philip Garcia’s post, entitled, “New Year is When One Begins to Know the Truth,” was deleted by Newsvine.com. You cannot find it there anymore, so, you might as well try this link instead by google saved link, “New Year is When One Begins to Know the Truth.” Newsvine.com deleted it, stating that:

This article has been removed by the Newsvine community.

But I still have the old link minus the rest of the current comments and all.

I will also put a link of my Newsvine deleted account.

    There you go:

    and

    about elmantheman.newsvine.com

the main reason why I have gone to register in Newsvine.com

Just so for everyone’s informantion, Viki Babbles Gonia commented the following:

blah blah blah“…elmantheman’s “explanation” for why his article on his own wordpress blog, linked by Red Wolf, is so incredibly similar to this one here, is pathetic at best.

This isn’t news any more than an apple pie recipe is news.

Your modus operandi is apparent to those of us who seek to protect Newsvine from abuse.

And, I suggest you dig a little deeper into my body of work here on Newsvine before you continue to attempt to discredit me….”blah blah blah Sat Jan 3, 2009 11:09 PM PST

I do not know what’s got into Viki Gonia and what kind of articles and comments she and Red Wolf moderator approve. She expects people to dig deeper in her body of work, but she is not doing the same courtesy to other writers. It seems that their decisions really all depends on their mood: cross you here, nail you there, or throw you out.

Newsvine instead opted to retain Viki’s post about an apple pie recipe submitted by Viki Babbles Gonia, entitled, “Mmmm…home made apple-pie,” instead of my source, Phillip’s article, “New Year is When One Begins to Know the Truth.” They also deleted my account:

    http//www.elmantheman.newsvine.com

This is a classic example of a one way street where some people are really shutting up to reality and will not allow communication to complete its cycle, for their selfish schemes. They are just the ones who discredited Newsvine. And this is a valuable experience to share with you relating to my post.

However, I will paste here my comments that they deleted excluding my explanation which is already found on my first comment here. I thought that confirmation that there is no plagiarism committed was enough for their moderator, Red Wolf, but I guess I was wrong.

I hope, I did not offend Viki Gonia for she just wrote last December something about her Christmas Day Activities and her New Year’s Resolution. This is not to retaliate. This is just to comprehend defensive people actuations, they shut you up. At least we know where Viki’s actions are coming from like when she wrote My New Year’s resolution is to not keep it. But she is right when she wrote her post’s title, “There are many things to be thankful for this year.” After all, this is the message my post conveys, being thankful to the Almighty God, our Creator. I hope it sinks in.

What can you say about it?

Newsvine.com deleted my 2nd comment below, among others:

    Going back to the issue,

Even on the internet, you will read excerpts from real books and newspapers that these celebrations, like Christmas and New Year are just mimicry of the real celebration being celebrated in the past from where it originated, the worship of gods, other than Jesus Christ and the Father.

The Vatican does not want to lose members and prefer to continue the tradition of Rome, not Christians. Among the reasons why the Vatican continue their traditions is that many Catholics will find it unfavourable. The Vatican does not want to announce to the world that what they celebrate now is outside the bible doctrines to avoid another confrontations and to upset Catholic believers and members. Upsetting the Catholic members would mean less power, authority and

200 SAINTS WEEDED OUT, VATICAN SAYS
    Manila Times, May 14, 1969

VATICAN CITY, May 13 – (Reuter) – The Vatican today denies that it had stripped any saints of their halos and said Roman Catholics could go on venerating even those who never existed.

The Vatican Weekly, Osservatore Dell Domenica, published a long article today seeking to calm public perplexity and indignation at the news that over 200 saints had been dropped from the calendar and many others declared optional.

“This also went for patron saints”, it added. “Thus scouts will continue to honor St. George, motorists can still turn to St. Christopher and artillery men to St. Barbara.”

    MANY UPSET

Many Roman Catholics had been particularly upset at the disappearance of St. Christopher, protector of travelers, St. George, patron of Boy Scouts and England and St. Barbara, defender of artillery and Italian traffic wardens.

They were among the 200 or so weeded out, in many cases because their history or even existence was in doubt.

Considerable local indignation also arose over the apparent downgrading of saints from universal and obligatory to optional and local veneration.

    SANTA IS OUT

Among those were St. Nicholas (Santa Claus) and St. Valentine, patron saint of lovers.

Neapolitans out graded at seeing their beloved San Gennaro (St. Januarius) demoted to optional was soothed somewhat when his blood liquefied in its precious phial on Schedaley yesterday.

They took the repetition as a sign that the saint did not mind.

The Ossevatore Della Domenica gave the reassurance “the church has not stripped the halo from any of its saints.”

It explained that the faithful prayed to saints to intercede with God on their behalf “and if a saints really never existed, God would still see the faith of him who prays and listen to his supplication.”

The weeding out to less than 180 saints were made, among excluded to these numbers are personages who has a questionable existence.

The Catholics say that they are the Universal Church, a visible one that was given the keys of Heaven. They always say in a debate that they are responsible to codify the Holy Bible books as inspired. Which imparts that they are in the Authority, more right in their decision for these Holidays of the Gregorian Calendar. But wait a minute, if they insist that they were the ones who classified the books as inspired, the description of the celebration in the Holy Bible should match to what they proclaim in the Gregorian Calendar!

Books codified as being inspired is tantamount to have been chosen with divine guidance. And the Holy Bible being codified having divine guidance would merit authority more than those who codify them. Of course, those who codified the book are dead already and what would be more important is the words left from the inspired books.

Why would Catholics bow down and worship the idols or graven images that they made, out of trees and different materials and insist they are only venerating them? Where as, the Holy Bible itself considered by them as inspired becomes second, if not, taken for granted when it comes to religious decisions?

105 God is the author of Sacred Scripture. “The divinely revealed realities, which are contained and presented in the text of Sacred Scripture, have been written down under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit.”69

III. THE HOLY SPIRIT, INTERPRETER OF SCRIPTURE

The Second Vatican Council indicates three criteria for interpreting Scripture in accordance with the Spirit who inspired it.78

112 1. Be especially attentive “to the content and unity of the whole Scripture”. Different as the books which compose it may be, Scripture is a unity by reason of the unity of God’s plan, of which Christ Jesus is the center and heart, open since his Passover.79

The phrase “heart of Christ” can refer to Sacred Scripture, which makes known his heart, closed before the Passion, as the Scripture was obscure. But the Scripture has been opened since the Passion; since those who from then on have understood it, consider and discern in what way the prophecies must be interpreted.80

113 2. Read the Scripture within “the living Tradition of the whole Church”. According to a saying of the Fathers, Sacred Scripture is written principally in the Church’s heart rather than in documents and records, for the Church carries in her Tradition the living memorial of God’s Word, and it is the Holy Spirit who gives her the spiritual interpretation of the Scripture (“. . . according to the spiritual meaning which the Spirit grants to the Church”81).

114 3. Be attentive to the analogy of faith.82 By “analogy of faith” we mean the coherence of the truths of faith among themselves and within the whole plan of Revelation.

This is where the self interest is obvious, because more money is generated by continuing and supporting non biblical decisions, traditions, worships, etc. The Holy Bible prevents them from earning money.

And why did the Catholic Church claims that they made the codification of the Holy Bible? Because they cannot help but do it as prophecied in the Holy Scriptures. They would need evidences of their visible Church in order to business human souls. The analogy of faith and unity being mentioned it the Cathecism are conflicting, but through their own Cathecism, the revelation is revealed that they will be the ones merchandising the word of God.

    The senses of Scripture

115 According to an ancient tradition, one can distinguish between two senses of Scripture: the literal and the spiritual, the latter being subdivided into the allegorical, moral and anagogical senses. The profound concordance of the four senses guarantees all its richness to the living reading of Scripture in the Church.

116 The literal sense is the meaning conveyed by the words of Scripture and discovered by exegesis, following the rules of sound interpretation: “All other senses of Sacred Scripture are based on the literal.”83

117 The spiritual sense. Thanks to the unity of God’s plan, not only the text of Scripture but also the realities and events about which it speaks can be signs.

    1. The allegorical sense. We can acquire a more profound understanding of events by recognizing their significance in Christ; thus the crossing of the Red Sea is a sign or type of Christ’s victory and also of Christian Baptism.84
    2. The moral sense. The events reported in Scripture ought to lead us to act justly. As St. Paul says, they were written “for our instruction”.85
    3. The anagogical sense (Greek: anagoge, “leading”). We can view realities and events in terms of their eternal significance, leading us toward our true homeland: thus the Church on earth is a sign of the heavenly Jerusalem.86

If you read 117 2. The moral sense, The events reported in Scripture ought to lead us to act justly. As St. Paul says, they were written “for our instruction”.85 I Cor 10:11; cf. Heb 3:1 -4:11.

They did it in the Philippines because they thought we will remain indio, as Spanish who colonized our country calls us, not until 400 years do they realize that the Holy Bible that they brought and prohibited us to read will be used against them. For this open the yes of the likes of Jose P. Rizal and the priests namely, Gomez, Burgos, and Zamora.

They failed to understand the Holy Bible that they brought in the Philippines, as it is written was prophecied and happening to the very eyes of people in this days as they read history of Spanish occupation and the Holy Bible:

    Daniel 12 (NIV)

3 Those who are wise will shine like the brightness of the heavens, and those who lead many to righteousness, like the stars for ever and ever. 4 But you, Daniel, close up and seal the words of the scroll until the time of the end. Many will go here and there to increase knowledge.”

    Isaiah 24:15
Therefore in the east give glory to the LORD; exalt the name of the LORD, the God of Israel, in the islands of the sea.

And now, whilst the New Year is being celebrated, more money is being generated while people’s lives are at stake, and the Catholic Church are doing nothing to avoid this. And what do I mean by avoiding and doing nothing? They have not started cleaning from the inside of the Catholic Church going outside, from the root of the problem = The Catholic teachings.

How about the Gregorian Calendar? What will a leader do to avoid people questioning the dates of festivities? To change the Hebrew calendar to Gregorian calendar and act as the Authority, thinking that as the Centuries pass by, people will forget.

As long as the Holy Bible is considered as inspired, the Catholic Church will remain the number one infringer or violator of the commandments of Jesus Christ. Next are those who gone out from the Catholic Church and built their own Church and still practicing the same festivities, even on the same date.

    IN BRIEF

134 All sacred Scripture is but one book, and this one book is Christ, “because all divine Scripture speaks of Christ, and all divine Scripture is fulfilled in Christ” (Hugh of St. Victor, De arca Noe 2, 8: PL 176, 642: cf. ibid. 2, 9: PL 176, 642-643).

141 “The Church has always venerated the divine Scriptures as she venerated the Body of the Lord” (DV 21): both nourish and govern the whole Christian life. “Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path” (Ps 119:105; cf. Is 50:4).

No doubt, Jesus Christ is the New Year. And how can some have a New Year without the Holy Bible to refer to? No doubt, the Vatican and those who followed their Catholic tradition like Christmas and New Year are those the Holy Bible referred to who are using it for personal, monetary gain without regard to the Human Soul. #7.1 – Sat Jan 3, 2009 8:31 AM PST

    Ma’am Jane Abao,

Now that you mentioned Thailand, I suddenly remember the news about a Thai Nightclub that caught fire. It’s a tragic event that caused lives due to tradition. There were a lot of foreigners there, maybe some came from America. The following night, news shown what was going on inside the club before it caught fire. There were people, foreigners had firecrackers lighted (those little broom sticks laced with gun powder) up inside the nightclub to welcome 2009.

Actually you need not go far, Newsvine has links. For example:

Tragedy Overdue: Dozens Killed In Bangkok Nightclub Fire

“…What a tragedy to start a hopefully better year with. A fire killed nearly sixty (60) mostly young New Year party revelers and injured scores at the Ekamai nightclub Santika. Bodies wrapped in white cotton were laid out on the pavement in front of the club which was popular with foreigners as well. Most of the fatality victims were Thai. So far one foreigner, a Singaporean, has been identified among the dead with a British female teacher possibly missing….

…Said a witness: The blaze was caused by a “special-effect” firework on the main stage to usher in the new year:

And the fire made the ceiling, which was made largely of inflammable sound-proof material. And the ceiling caught fire, the fire spread very quickly and you can only imagine the panic of the trapped inside. Firework inside a building … a policeman: “It appears that the fire started from the area of the stage where a band was playing. There were some pyrotechnics and it appears that they started the blaze….”
