Christ is the New Year, in pursuit for the True Happiness
3And because he was of the same craft, he abode with them, and wrought: for by their occupation they were tentmakers.
Before and at the first cast of the sun’s rays and so on, this New Year of 2009 which is based on the Gregorian Calendar, people tend to have wishes of not to do’s, a new year’s resolution. In the midst of those people are hopeless souls, what can they wish for?
I wrote something about the “Pursuit of Happyness” after I watched the movie with the same title, Will Smith was the lead actor. My little brother often suggests to me that I see it and since I have a lot things to do, I just ignore him. And finally I had an idle time, I did watch it. I regret that I have not seen the movie sooner.
I often write in my posts how I relate to some movies, and how I am convinced how God moves in mysterious ways, and becomes clearer as I continue to study the word of God. Movies are sort of warp zones where the minds of people who watch meet; unfortunately, like two people walking towards each other, walking in the opposite direction and that’s it, just a brief encounter and nothing else. People try to relay a message, in written forms, sounds, visuals, etc. Some gets it, some tries to digest and still try to read between the lines, while some did not get it at all. More often than not, some people just watch a movie because everyone does, and they don’t want to be O.P., out of place when people around them starts to talk about it.
God works, but some failed to notice it, while others do something against it. How can you relate to this? I wonder whether these two in the movie, father and son, really had happiness that they pursue. I haven’t even thought that free transient homes or shelters are enough to see how God works.
Free Transient homes or shelters provide a realization that there are people who believe in God and the real sense of happiness is free, just around the corner, by turning to God. Imagine, a whisper of “thank you, oh God” brings you nearer to Him. How many people do you think has whispered it before, during, and after watching the film? What do you think people did after they saw the film? Did they return to their same old business and did even care less. Put yourselves in some other’s shoe, for example, when you have no place to stay and anyone to talk with, and it is New Year’s Eve?
Did anyone tell you, especially the Roman Catholic Pope, that New Year and our refuge is Christ? The Holy Bible contains the words of God and some people are able to read between the lines, even the absolute truth:
May the LORD repay you for what you have done. May you be richly rewarded by the LORD, the God of Israel, under whose wings you have come to take refuge.”
2 Samuel 22:31
“As for God, his way is perfect; the word of the LORD is flawless. He is a shield for all who take refuge in him.
Let us read some highlights of what Brother Eliseo “Eli” Soriano taught us in the Members Church of God International (MCGI), written by Philip Garcia in Newsvine.com, entitled, “New Year is When One Begins to Know the Truth – Bro. Eli Soriano”:
“…Not all countries celebrate New Year on January 1, however; only those that are governed by the Gregorian calendar. According to Wikipedia, the Roman calendar traditionally began on March 1, until it was later changed by Julius Caesar in 47 BC, creating the Julian calendar. Catholic Pope Gregory XIII then changed it again in 1582 to what is presently known as the Gregorian calendar, which begins on January 1.
The true New Year, on the contrary, according to Bro. Eli Soriano, host of the religious program Ang Dating Daan (The Old Path), is not January 1 or any other date. In his Bible Expositions being held in different parts of the globe, Bro. Eli usually encounters questions regarding the New Year. According to the preacher, in the Bible, “Christ is the New Year.”
Soriano, acclaimed by many as the most sensible preacher in our time, is the Presiding Minister of the Members, Church of God, International.
Bro. Eli explains that once a person has accepted Christ in his life, to him it is the beginning of a new year. No more alcohol drinking, no more cigarette smoking and no more of the wicked ways that he formerly does. Unlike in the Gregorian calendar, a drug addict will still be a drug addict after the New Year celebration.
Instead of buying firecrackers to promote air pollution, why not build a free transient home or orphanage for the homeless? Instead of welcoming the new year with dismembered fingers, bloody eyes and dirty nose, why not provide free feeding programs in the depressed areas of the country? These things have Bro. Eli Soriano accomplished; perhaps, because he celebrates a New Year different from most others.
In the Ang Dating Daan (ADD) Convention Center in Apalit, Pampanga, north of Manila, a new free Transient Home is currently on its finishing touch. It is a sequelto the free Transient Home in Quezon City, a few blocks away from UNTV Studio, opened on October 29 through the efforts of Bro. Eli Soriano and UNTV host, Mr. Daniel Razon…
…In the ADD Convention Center also, an orphanage and a free hospital is located. In the orphanage, the physically-disabled, the elderly widows and the orphans have physicians and assistants attending to their needs. Food is served on time, vitamins and all possible care is provided. This orphanage is one of the several orphanages Bro. Eli maintains in different parts of the country..” Read More or Read cache link instead (This is a classic example of what I am talking about when Newsvine.com shuts up it’s door for communication. We all search for a refuge in so many ways in the literal sense, especially, spiritual sense. And where do we start? When we know that someone is being guided by the Holy Spirit that makes a way, being poor financially, to help others, that is a start and how do we move forward?
“I want it done immediately.” – Bro. Eli Soriano.
These were the words that Bro. Daniel Razon received from Bro. Eli Soriano, and shared with the congregation of the Members Church of God International when the former spoke of the “transient home”, a project that he had dreamed of and now has come up for good.
The transient home that Bro. Daniel Razon related was inspired from the film “In Pursuit of Happyness”, which starred Will Smith. The movie shows the concept of a transient (which means temporary) building where the homeless or drifters can pass the night for free and then leave the next day.
Bro. Daniel thinks of enhancing the said house by making it a shelter for the homeless where they could not only sleep but also be fed for free, similar to the complimentary bus, train, medical, and food service that have been in operation for almost a year, through the instrumentation of the Members Church of God International and UNTV.
According to Kuya Daniel, the idea of the transient home had moved him after he watched the film, which was at a certain time prior to the piloting of “Good Morning Kuya” on July 23, 2007….” Read More
These are good work in Christ. Aside from that, Ang Dating Daan or The Old Path, as a media program name of MCGI, has its orphanages, home for the aged, widows, and handicapped. The program sponsors free MRT tickets for the senior citizens; libreng sakay free bus rides in metro manila; also feeding programs for the poor children; medical missions and consultations; legal consultations, etc.
11He told them, “The secret of the kingdom of God has been given to you. But to those on the outside everything is said in parables 12so that,
” ‘they may be ever seeing but never perceiving,
and ever hearing but never understanding;
otherwise they might turn and be forgiven!
13Then Jesus said to them, “Don’t you understand this parable? How then will you understand any parable? 14The farmer sows the word. 15Some people are like seed along the path, where the word is sown. As soon as they hear it, Satan comes and takes away the word that was sown in them. 16Others, like seed sown on rocky places, hear the word and at once receive it with joy. 17But since they have no root, they last only a short time. When trouble or persecution comes because of the word, they quickly fall away. 18Still others, like seed sown among thorns, hear the word; 19but the worries of this life, the deceitfulness of wealth and the desires for other things come in and choke the word, making it unfruitful. 20Others, like seed sown on good soil, hear the word, accept it, and produce a crop-thirty, sixty or even a hundred times what was sown.”
21He said to them, “Do you bring in a lamp to put it under a bowl or a bed? Instead, don’t you put it on its stand? 22For whatever is hidden is meant to be disclosed, and whatever is concealed is meant to be brought out into the open. 23If anyone has ears to hear, let him hear.”
24“Consider carefully what you hear,” he continued. “With the measure you use, it will be measured to you-and even more. 25Whoever has will be given more; whoever does not have, even what he has will be taken from him.”
“His master replied, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant! You have been faithful with a few things; I will put you in charge of many things. Come and share your master’s happiness!’
24″Then the man who had received the one talent came. ‘Master,’ he said, ‘I knew that you are a hard man, harvesting where you have not sown and gathering where you have not scattered seed. 25So I was afraid and went out and hid your talent in the ground. See, here is what belongs to you.’
26″His master replied, ‘You wicked, lazy servant! So you knew that I harvest where I have not sown and gather where I have not scattered seed? 27Well then, you should have put my money on deposit with the bankers, so that when I returned I would have received it back with interest.
28″ ‘Take the talent from him and give it to the one who has the ten talents. 29For everyone who has will be given more, and he will have an abundance. Whoever does not have, even what he has will be taken from him.
30And throw that worthless servant outside, into the darkness, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.’
