Eternal Life, the Pursuit of Happiness, and The Secret
I am an absentee in our Thanksgiving Day today and I regret it so much. I was very much looking forward to this kind of day. Well, I instead decided to buy DVD titles and watched it in the following order: 28 Weeks Later, The Secret, and the Pursuit of Happyness. Now, I am writing all about it.
“Twenty Eight Weeks Later” imparts that against all the odds, a man’s struggle to keep himself alive even to the darkest hour when his life is being threatened, even the total annihilation of the existence of humanity due to the infliction of the rage virus, he can be victorious for a moment, but the battle is won temporarily.
“The Secret” implies that learning the Law of Attraction and living by its meaning, by working on its positive teachings, grabbing the moment once you realize its importance, will make so much difference in your life positively. Thus, the people who learned this panacea-like ideology like Plato, Newton, Carnegie, Beethoven, Shakespeare, Einstein, etc, according to the authors, were able to use it in their works but kept it hidden instead, even those who learned of its existence took the oath of secrecy. And now, for us much as a little sum, the secret has been revealed to us. And it is all up to the person reading or watching to use it depending on his purpose. But $100,000.00 won’t stop a man to desire more, he will even struggle to have a million, and so on.
A father, against all the odds attained the success that he thought he will never have, freedom from constant strain of financial pressure. He shared his emotion to his son on the last scenes of the movie, where he lifted him up and hugged him in the classroom for the longest time. But this movie, inspired by a true story, even says that it is just part of a man’s struggle for happiness. The story ended in such a way that people might think that, maybe, his wife will return.
One phrase continues to linger in my mind after the unfortunate missing of the duties as a servant of God, and watching these titles, it is “the pursuit of happiness.”
The expression “pursuit of happiness” was coined by Dr. Samuel Johnson in his 1759 novel Rasselas.
What is happiness, really? Is it the moment where you feel the opposite of how you would feel when things get wrong, undesirable, unwanted, depressing, danger some? Is it the success in this world that makes a man happy? A lot of things offer men to become happy. And surely, we normally associate happiness when we can laugh amidst the hardships or when we overcome obstacles that hinder our goal.
All these are but subjective definitions. Some sacrificed their lives, even their time and effort but all these things are in vain, that is, when done in a wrong faith: right intentions-wrong job. People tend to listen to people, even pay for their insight or invite people to do a spiritual job. But let me ask, who are these people to reveal a secret? Who are these people to die to save another man’s life? Why does a father will do everything to give comfort to his son? Almost everyone cries out for a revelation of a truth, that is hidden, coded or sealed. These assumptions and even truth for some, even without anyone’s point of view will not invalidate the Truth that is written in the Holy Scriptures.
MARk 4: 11He told them, “The secret of the kingdom of God has been given to you. But to those on the outside everything is said in parables 12so that,
” ‘they may be ever seeing but never perceiving,
and ever hearing but never understanding;
otherwise they might turn and be forgiven!
13Then Jesus said to them, “Don’t you understand this parable? How then will you understand any parable? 14The farmer sows the word. 15Some people are like seed along the path, where the word is sown. As soon as they hear it, Satan comes and takes away the word that was sown in them. 16Others, like seed sown on rocky places, hear the word and at once receive it with joy. 17But since they have no root, they last only a short time. When trouble or persecution comes because of the word, they quickly fall away. 18Still others, like seed sown among thorns, hear the word; 19but the worries of this life, the deceitfulness of wealth and the desires for other things come in and choke the word, making it unfruitful. 20Others, like seed sown on good soil, hear the word, accept it, and produce a crop-thirty, sixty or even a hundred times what was sown.”
21He said to them, “Do you bring in a lamp to put it under a bowl or a bed? Instead, don’t you put it on its stand? 22For whatever is hidden is meant to be disclosed, and whatever is concealed is meant to be brought out into the open. 23If anyone has ears to hear, let him hear.”
24“Consider carefully what you hear,” he continued. “With the measure you use, it will be measured to you-and even more. 25Whoever has will be given more; whoever does not have, even what he has will be taken from him.”
Indeed, I am saddened by the fact that I cannot consistently do the duty that I myself took oath in the presence of God, to praise, to worship, and to give Him thanks in the presence of the Church of God, while I still have breath. Also, I am ashamed that a sin that always put me in shame, always knocks in my door, and though I can pause for a moment to decide of not allowing it to come in, I fail to do so.
To the man who pleases him, God gives wisdom, knowledge and happiness, but to the sinner he gives the task of gathering and storing up wealth to hand it over to the one who pleases God. This too is meaningless, a chasing after the wind.
I, as a part of the Church of God, learned that the pursuit of happiness is a part of a day to day struggle of Christians. Christians behave in such a way that the hurtful feelings we have shall not be an excuse to forget thanking God. We learned to thank God, even for those things that we do not know. How can a man learn this faith, when the gospel that the Holy Bible imparts, undergo the adulteration by so many a man? Instead of bringing this up, they post or write something. Yes they are subjectively fair enough to make one believe them, where in fact it is way too far off from the truth. It doesn’t mean that when someone gives a point and when you felt that it applies to your life and may result to a life better off, is tantamount of learning the Truth.
The Truth hurts, but like a medicine, it helps you to heal your sickness. All things for now are just a relief for the distress caused by living in this world where the men of God are just so few. Let me state a verse from the Bible:
“His master replied, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant! You have been faithful with a few things; I will put you in charge of many things. Come and share your master’s happiness!’
24″Then the man who had received the one talent came. ‘Master,’ he said, ‘I knew that you are a hard man, harvesting where you have not sown and gathering where you have not scattered seed. 25So I was afraid and went out and hid your talent in the ground. See, here is what belongs to you.’
26″His master replied, ‘You wicked, lazy servant! So you knew that I harvest where I have not sown and gather where I have not scattered seed? 27Well then, you should have put my money on deposit with the bankers, so that when I returned I would have received it back with interest.
28″ ‘Take the talent from him and give it to the one who has the ten talents. 29For everyone who has will be given more, and he will have an abundance. Whoever does not have, even what he has will be taken from him. 30And throw that worthless servant outside, into the darkness, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.’
Those three titles that I watched are gospels in themselves, and even impart and offer temporary relief in our day to day existence and struggle to be happy. It even assumes possibilities, from the worse case scenarios to the simple day to day events in our lives. But what does the bible says about other gospels, other that what the apostles preached?
1 Corinthians 15:2
By this gospel you are saved, if you hold firmly to the word I preached to you. Otherwise, you have believed in vain.
2 Corinthians 11:4
For if someone comes to you and preaches a Jesus other than the Jesus we preached, or if you receive a different spirit from the one you received, or a different gospel from the one you accepted, you put up with it easily enough.
I am astonished that you are so quickly deserting the one who called you by the grace of Christ and are turning to a different gospel–
But even if we or an angel from heaven should preach a gospel other than the one we preached to you, let him be eternally condemned!
As we have already said, so now I say again: If anybody is preaching to you a gospel other than what you accepted, let him be eternally condemned!
I hope and pray God forgives me for being disobedient and forgetful. I pray that God will still remember me, because only God can put the missing pieces of my life together, even yours. Only God can make the blind see and perceive; only Him can make the deaf hear and understand the Secret. Only God gives the true happiness. Only God can give eternal life. Only the Secret is revealed in the Church of God. May I invite you to learn first hand, please visit http://esoriano.wordpress.com.
1Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away, and there was no longer any sea. 2I saw the Holy City, the new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride beautifully dressed for her husband. 3And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, “Now the dwelling of God is with men, and he will live with them. They will be his people, and God himself will be with them and be their God. 4He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away.”
5He who was seated on the throne said, “I am making everything new!” Then he said, “Write this down, for these words are trustworthy and true.”
If you have read even a single post of Bro Eli, more so, when you read it all, those posts are enough proof, even the verse below, that Bro Eli is concerned for our salvation and is warning as too of the danger/peril that a false teacher can lead us to. The same concern that he learned from the Apostles, the same who learned from Jesus Christ; by reading the Holy Scriptures with the guidance of the Holy Spirit and the holy men of God.
Colossians 2:18-19 (The Message)
Don’t tolerate people who try to run your life, ordering you to bow and scrape, insisting that you join their obsession with angels and that you seek out visions. They’re a lot of hot air, that’s all they are. They’re completely out of touch with the source of life, Christ, who puts us together in one piece, whose very breath and blood flow through us. He is the Head and we are the body. We can grow up healthy in God only as he nourishes us.
Colossians 2:18-19 (English Standard Version)
18Let no one disqualify you, insisting on asceticism and worship of angels, going on in detail about visions, puffed up without reason by his sensuous mind, 19and not holding fast to the Head, from whom the whole body, nourished and knit together through its joints and ligaments, grows with a growth that is from God.
Colossians 2:18-19 (King James Version)
18Let no man beguile you of your reward in a voluntary humility and worshipping of angels, intruding into those things which he hath not seen, vainly puffed up by his fleshly mind,
19And not holding the Head, from which all the body by joints and bands having nourishment ministered, and knit together, increaseth with the increase of God.
